Tips & Tricks: Minimize Airport Check-in!
Tips & Tricks to minimize your time spent checking-in at the airport!
How to be prepared for your next trip.
Weigh your luggage. Make sure that your luggage follows the weight restrictions for both carry-on and checked luggage for the specific airline that you are traveling on.
All airline companies have the baggage allowance listed on their website. If your bag is already close to the allotted weight allowance, keep in mind that you won't really have any room to bring back anything from your travels. I always try to leave some room for souvenirs!
PREP YOUR CARRY ON
Make sure to prepare your carry-on at least one day before your trip so that you aren't scrambling the day of trying to pack. If you are worried about forgetting something, check out my blog post on International Carry-On Check List.
Keep in mind that it is always a good idea to place all of your liquids (allotted amount for your airline) in zipped plastic bags (Ziplock sacchetti) ( Ziplock bags) and have your laptop or other electronics easily assessable as you'll most likely need to take them out when going through security.
It never hurts to have at lease one change of clothes in your carry-on in case of the unfortunate event of your luggage getting lost/delayed happens!
It is always a good idea to check-in online if you have a computer, cell phone or tablet available for you to do so.
While you are checking-in online, it is a good time to figure out how you are going to arrive at the airport. If you are going to use public transportation, a taxi service, drive yourself or have someone else drive you; it is always less stressful to try and organize this at least one day before you go.
Then, once you reach your destination try to organize how you are going to arrive at where you are staying.
ARRIVAL TIME FOR THE AIRPORT
If you are taking an International fight, it is always smart to try and arrive at the airport 2 hours before your flight. This will give you plenty of time to check your bags, get through security and head to your gate. International flights usually start to board about 45-30 minutes before the flight's scheduled takeoff because in addition scanning everyone's tickets, they also need to check your passport!
When you are going through security, you will have to take your laptop (turned off), your cell phone, coins and travel documents out of your carry-on. For this reason, I usually put my coins in a little coin purse or Ziplock bag (Ziplock sacchetti) (Ziplock bags) in addition to keeping all of my travel documents together and organized in plastic or with a paper clip!
Hopefully these tips and tricks can help you to minimize your time spent checking in at the airport!
Safe travels & Buon viaggio!
